SUMMIT COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The First Merit bank on South Arlington Street in Coventry Township was robbed Monday just after 9 a.m.
The man leaned over the counter, stated he had a gun, and demanded money then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Witnesses say he entered a mid 1990's gold colored Dodge Intrepid. While entering the vehicle, a dye-pack exploded on the suspect. He then fled northbound on South Arlington Street.
Approximately 30 minutes later, Summit County Sheriff's deputies located a vehicle matching the description of the robber's vehicle at the corner of Arlington Street and Archwood Avenue in the City of Akron. The Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle fled the area and crashed a short distance away.
The driver fled on foot and attempted to carjack another vehicle. He was unsuccessful and a foot pursuit ensued between the suspect and the deputies.
The suspect was apprehended a short distance away.
The suspect was identified as Darrell Connell, age 26, of Green. He was arrested for Aggravated Robbery and Felonious Assault for his encounter with the deputies. The bank robbery is still under investigation.
