Akron firefighter injured while battling blaze

Chalker Street, Akron Chalker Street, Akron

An Akron house fire got out of control really fast just after midnight on Sunday in the North Hill neighborhood.  Mary McClure who lives next door says "I heard this loud explosion.  I don't know if it was a transformer or windows but something blew up."

19 Action News Investigative Reporter Scott Taylor says the fire apparently started on the porch. Parts of a car were melted on one side of the house and the other side of the home included a neighbor's house that sustained heavy flame and smoke damage.

Ken Morris lives in that house and says "It was pretty intense."

Akron Fire Officials tell us Girardo Herrea who lives at the house that first caught fire tried to put the fire out but couldn't so he jumped into his vehicle and went to a friends house.  Neighbors thought he just took off but Herrea says he doesn't speak English and went to his friends so they could translate and call 911.

One Akron Firefighter suffered a minor injury but we are being told he is going to be just fine.  So far no cause of the house fire and it is still under investigation.
