Homeowner killed in Painesville Township fire

PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - An investigation is underway after a deadly house fire in Painesville Township.

The fire started around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Wetmore Avenue.

Upon firefighters arrival, the entire rear side of the home was engulfed in flames.

Sheriff's Office units quickly learned that the 68-year-old homeowner, Marion Stewart, was said to be inside the residence. The homeowner's 61-year-old brother, Melvin Stewart, who also resides at the residence, escaped the fire with minor smoke inhalation.

Fires crews managed to bring the majority of the fire under control within approximately 15 minutes.

Marion Stewart was then located, but was found deceased in a hallway area leading from a garage/workshop area into the kitchen.

The residence was deemed a total loss.
