Cleveland (WOIO) - Ohio State is in the process of looking for a new team to open the 2013 football season with after Vanderbilt dropped the Buckeyes from their schedule. The game was scheduled for August 31.
Vanderbilt notified Ohio State earlier this week about the schedule change which came about when the Southeastern Conference scheduled the Commodores to play Mississippi that day.
Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith told The Plain Dealer he is looking for a team to fill the open date on the schedule and that it probably wouldn't be a BCS team.
Vanderbilt also notified Northwestern they are canceling their home-and-home series scheduled for 2013 and 2014.
As for the 2013 non-conference schedule for the Buckeyes, they host Florida A&M September 7, travel to California on September 14 before playing Buffalo at the Horseshoe the following Saturday.
