ROCKY RIVER, OH (WOIO) - Safely taking care of aging parents is a challenge that many families are facing.
Now there is a growing option for families who are full-time caregivers to their parents, but occasionally need help so they can get to work or run some errands.
Physically, Pat Knapp is healthy, but the 85-year-old cannot be left alone.
She lives with her daughter, Janet Spicuzza and her family, but spends a lot of time at the Rockport Elder Daycare in Rocky River.
"It's a lifesaver, these are her friends here. I know she's safe and she has a good time," said Spicuzza.
The daycare for the elderly is connected to the Rockport Independent and Assisted Living facility and it's an option for families whose aging parents are not yet ready for full-time care.
"She's great to be around we have a lot of fun, but sometimes I just want to go out and get my hair done by myself and or do something by myself," said Spicuzza.
It costs eleven bucks an hour and there is a four hour minimum. It can be used anytime within a 24 hour notice.
There are senior citizens from all walks of life at the facility.
"I have a retired physician, I have a retired pastor, homemakers, teachers. It's like they're coming to their club. It's just wonderful," said daycare director, Amy Zauner.
