19-year-old killed in Stark County crash

STARK COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

An investigation is underway after a deadly crash in Stark County.

It happened around 8 p.m. Monday on US 62 in Nimishillen Township.

Troopers say the crash occurred when a Mazda MX6 driven by 19-year-old Donald L. Lewers, Jr. lost control and went off the left side of the roadway, through the grass median and into the eastbound lanes of traffic.

The vehicle was then struck on the passenger side by a 1999 Pontiac Firebird, driven by 26-year-old Andrew J. Mooney.

Lewers was rushed to Aultman Hospital, where he later died.

Mooney was rushed to Mercy Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

It is unknown if alcohol is a factor in the crash.

Lewers was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. Mooney was wearing his safety belt.
