Police: Man slashes neighbor's face during political talk about President Obama

LORAIN, OH (WOIO) -

A 19-year-old Lorain man hospitalized after his face was slashed during a casual conversation about politics and President Obama.

The violent act took place just before 11:30 p.m. Monday night at a duplex on Euclid Avenue.

Police say Corey Craig was drinking beer with his neighbor.  Craig told police that his neighbor  kept talking about the President and politics and was growing increasingly upset.

According to the police report, Craig's neighbor offered him another beer.  Craig says his neighbor returned swinging and, ultimately, sliced him down the left side of his face.

Craig's wife witnessed the attack, and pulled her husband into their home to call 911.

Police tell 19 Action News Craig's face was sliced open. The wound went from the left side of his temple all the way down to underneath his chin.

EMS transported Craig to the hospital, and he was later life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center.  His condition is not known.

After the incident, the neighbor fled the scene. His girlfriend was uncooperative with police. She claimed to not know how to spell his last name, his age or his date of birth, despite having dated for six years.
