Gunman tries to rob University of Akron student off-campus

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - University of Akron police are looking for information regarding an attempted armed robbery that happened early Thursday morning just south of campus.

It happened at 3:15 a.m. behind a business at East Exchange and Allyn Streets.

The victim is a 23-year-old student. He told police the robber is a black man with long dreadlocks, clean-shaven, wearing blue sweat pants with a white stripe, and a gray hoodie with the Echo-brand red rhino on it. The robber is about age 20, stands 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs about 175. The robber showed a gun and fired it past the victim.

No one was physically harmed.
