Medical Examiner identifies victim in east side car crash

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has identified the driver involved in a deadly crash on Cleveland's east side.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. on East 75th and Union Avenue.

Police tell 19 Action News 36-year-old Jerome Richardson ran into a pole, splitting his car apart. The Cleveland man was later pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Pontiac Grand Prix (one occupant) was operating westbound on Union above the posted speed limit at E. 75th Street for reasons unknown the Grand Prix loss control, went left of center across the double yellow lines and struck two poles before coming to its final rest.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and the cause of the accident is under investigation.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

This investigation is being handled by the Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit.

The official cause of death will be determined by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
