ASHLAND COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - Two people were killed in a deadly highway crash in Ashland County early Thursday morning.
It happened on I-71 NB at milepost 189.
The preliminary investigation indicates Julius E. Manning, 62, of Alonzo Ave in Cleveland, was driving a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country van NB on 71 in the right lane. The second driver, Bryce T. Seymour, 53 of W. Main Street, Geneva was operating a 2003 Volvo tractor-trailer on 71 and was also in the right lane.
Manning failed to maintain an assured clear distance and struck the back of the commercial tractor-trailer. Seymour was able to pull his vehicle to the berm just north of the crash scene. Upon exiting his vehicle, Seymour collapsed on the roadway from what appears to be a medical condition.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by the Ashland County Coroner's Office.
Manning was transported to the Ashland County Morgue. Seymour was taken to the Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office in Cleveland.
Manning was not wearing a seatbelt and seatbelt usage for Seymour is unknown at this time. It is also unknown if alcohol was a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
