Man rips off washing machine during power outage

An accused laundry machine looter is off the streets thanks to the swift actions of police and an attentive Eastlake resident.

Around 1:40 a.m. Thursday morning, a resident of the Randall Terrace Apartments was awakened by banging and rattling noises in the building and an SUV with a loud muffler running in the parking lot. The resident saw a man get into the SUV and called police to report suspicious activity.

The power was out due, so the resident used a flashlight to check the laundry room and noticed someone had pried open the coin slot on one of the washing machines.

Officers caught up with the suspect vehicle on Vine Street and arrested 29-year-old Branson Dombek of Willoughby Hills. Police found a coin-operated washing machine in his possession along with coins from another machine. 

Dombek plead not guilty to felony theft, tampering with coin machines, and possession of criminal tools. He due back in court on Tuesday.
