AKRON, OH (WOIO) - An 18-year-old man is now behind bars after he leads Akron police on a chase and rams into a cruiser.
It happened around 3:30am Sunday morning. Officers attempted to stop a 2001 Land Rover near East Avenue and Vernon Odom Boulevard for reckless operation.
Officers activated their lights and sirens but Lexington Jacobs allegedly refused to pull over and led officers on a chase where he ran several stop signs.
Jacobs ran off the roadway near Campbell Street and Lane Street, he then put the SUV in reverse and struck the passenger side of the cruiser.
When the Land Rover became disabled at the dead end of Scheck Street, Jacobs allegedly ran from the vehicle on foot. Officers apprehended him in the 1000 block of Taylor Street.
Officers recovered two grams of Crack/Cocaine in the driver's pockets and over $170.00 in cash was found in the Land Rover. No officers were injured.
Jacobs is charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Possession of Crack/Cocaine, Obstructing Official Business and Failure to Comply with Police Orders.
