The driver accused in a hit and run accident that nearly killed a 12-year-old girl was in court on Thursday.
24-year-old Cedric Francis pleaded not guilty to the hit and run and also leaving the scene of an accident. His bond was set at $20K.
Francis was arrested on Tuesday after officers from the 2nd District tracked down the vehicle involved in the September hit-skip of 12-year-old Katie Adkins on Cleveland's west side.
Alert officers on patrol saw an SUV with damage parked illegally not far from the scene. Police had the vehicle towed and accident investigators matched it up with parts left at the accident scene.
Katie spent two weeks in the hospital with a long list of injuries including blood on the brain, broken femur, pelvic fractures, cuts to the spleen, bruised lungs and a broken jaw.
"I didn't think he'd ever get caught," said Katie Adkins.
"He just kept running. I think if they hadn't caught the car or found the car he'd still be running to this day," said Ginger Adkins, Katie's mother.
