Veteran Akron detective indicted on multiple sex crimes against a child


An Akron cop has arrested for multiple sex crimes against a child.

52 year old Akron Police Detective Bob Pankonien was indicted by the Summit County Grand Jury.

The charges include pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, sexual battery, gross sexual imposition, sexual Imposition and Unauthorized Use of the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway.

According to police Pankonien is a 19-year veteran of the Akron Police Department and is currently assigned to the Investigative Sub-Division Burglary Unit.

He was booked Friday into the Summit County Jail and released on a $50,000 bond.

The Akron Police Department has placed him on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the criminal case.  The charges came to light during a two month investigation.

"The Akron Police Department is comprised of honorable men and women dedicated to serving and protecting the citizens of Akron. I will closely monitor the legal process in this matter and do whatever it takes to preserve the trust of the public we are sworn to serve", stated Chief James Nice.
