Police say, just after 9:20 p.m. on Friday, November 9th, a driver of a small black pick-up truck hit a child while she was crossing the street on E. State Street near South Lundy Avenue and sped off.

The child was initially transported to Salem Hospital, but was later lifeflighted to Akron Children's Hospital where she would succumb to her injuries.

After police quickly located the vehicle, the suspected driver, 27-year-old Todd R. Roberts of Washingtonville, Ohio walked into the Salem Police Department at 5:05 p.m. on Saturday and voluntarily turned himself in.

Following an investigative interview, Mr. Roberts was processed for the charge of failing to stop after an accident/fatal, a felony of the 3rd degree. He was then taken to the Columbiana County Jail pending an arraignment at the Columbiana County Municipal Court.

Robert's 1998 Chevy S-10 truck remains in the custody of the Salem Police Department.
