ERIE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - An investigation is underway after an 18-month-old boy died from extreme malnourishment and dehydration.
Emergency crews were called to the Vermilion Township home shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The baby was dead by the time help arrived.
Erie County Chief Deputy Jared Oliver tells 19 Action News six other children have since been removed from the home. Four of the kids are being treated at Rainbow Babies for a number of health concerns, including malnourishment.
Officers say the home was in deplorable conditions.
According to the parents, five of the children have handicaps. The mother also told police the baby suffered from a number of health problems, including acid reflux and heart murmurs.
But when police checked the child's medical records, they discovered he hadn't been seen by a doctor for several months.
The investigation continues.
There are no charges at this time.
