STARVING DOG: APL says Eeyore is improving

PORTAGE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Portage County Animal League reports that "Eeyore", the starved dog that was saved last week, has been steadily improving and gaining weight.

The Portage APL is happy to tell all Eeyore's supporters that he is up almost 10 pounds and is getting stronger everyday and eating and drinking like a champ.

Just about a week ago it wasn't clear whether or not Eeyore would survive because he was so thin and near death.

He was so thin and emaciated that he couldn't stand or walk on his own. And his body temperature was 92 degrees (normal temperature is 101-102 degrees). He was hypothermic and every bone in his body was showing.

Eeyore is now eating more than three meals per day for a total of about seven cups of food each day. This is more food than a dog his size should have but until he is back to a healthy weight he will be over eating.

The APL says he is definitely more energetic, pulls on the leash and is more aware.

The Portage APL wants to thank everyone for their support and share Eeyore's journey back to health.

The APL continues to rescue animals every day and the need continues to increase each year. Portage APL is a private, nonprofit organization and relies on the generosity and kindness of individuals and businesses to help thousands of animals who have no voice.
