WILLOUGHBY, OH (WOIO) - At around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 15th, Willoughby police were advised of a man attempting to rob a CVS Pharmacy located at 6005 Som Center Road and assaulting a cashier in the process.
Store employees informed dispatch that the suspect drove away in a Ford Escort heading toward Willoughby Hills.
The Willoughby Hills police spotted the suspect's vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect attempted to flee and ultimately crashed on River Road near the Gates Mills border.
The driver was identified as Albert D. Rose, 57, of Cleveland. Rose was ejected from his car and transported to Hillcrest Hospital for injuries suffered from the crash. A knife and clothing similar to that worn during the robbery was recovered from Rose.
After speaking with store employees and reviewing the surveillance video, officials say Rose went to the pharmacy department, picked up cough syrup and approached the checkout counter. That's when the cashier said he mumbled something to her. She continued on to say that when she asked him to repeat himself that's when he pulled out a knife, tried to grab her collar and during the struggle she was cut.
The cashier suffered a small laceration on her hand and was treated by the Willoughby Fire Department on the scene.
Albert Rose is facing charges of aggravated robbery, a felony of the first degree and felonious assault, a felony of the second degree. Police say warrants for his arrest have been issued and will be served when he is medically cleared.
