GARFIELD HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Garfield Hts. police recently cracked a two-decades old cold case. The victim is now speaking out about the ordeal for the first time.
The woman was kidnapped from a shopping center parking lot and raped in 1990. Police charged Timothy Byrne in the case, linking him this week with the help of new DNA testing.
The victim still remembers the horrific details of her attack.
"Those eyes are something I will never forget," she told 19 Action News. "He just told me he was going to blow my head off. My husband, and my kids were never going to see me again."
She and Garfield Hts. Police believe Byrne could be to blame for more sex assaults. He's already doing time in Tennessee for a different sex crime.
"He cannot be able to walk the street or go free again because he is a monster for what he did," she said.
The victim says she feels lucky to survive and she's speaking out because she wants all rape victims to find the courage to come forward.
