AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Two teens hospitalized after a high speed chase in Akron.
Officers observed a stolen 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling on South Arlington Street and East Wilbeth Road around 3 a.m. Monday morning.
Officers attempted a traffic stop, when the driver of the Trailblazer ran the red light and continued northbound on South Arlington Street at a high rate of speed. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, and struck a church on South Arlington Street.
The driver and passenger fled on foot from the vehicle.
The 15-year-old passenger was apprehended immediately. The 14-year-old driver was arrested several minutes later hiding under a tarp inside of a garage on Joy Avenue.
Both suspects were transported to Akron Children's Hospital where their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer was taken in an armed robbery around 7:15 p.m. Sunday night at Princeton Street and West South Street. The robbery is under investigation.
Additional charges are expected.
