21-year-old stomped, beaten with pipe at east side gas station

Police are investigating after a 21-year-old man was brutally attacked inside an east side gas station.

It happened on Saturday, November 18 at East 116th and Union.

The victim, Craig Barnett, stopped at the gas station before going to visit his mom.  When he walked into the store, four men started attacking him.  He was beaten with a metal pipe and kicked.

"I just want to find the guys that did it", says Barnett.

Although Barnett says that he doesn't know his attackers, he does recall seeing them just 20 minutes prior to the attack.

"They were stripping a house of copper across from my sister's."

Barnett lost consciousness and woke up when he was being put inside an ambulance.

He was taken to Metro where he was treated for a fractured jaw and cheek bone and his teeth had to be wired.

"They say I need plastic surgery on my face and wires in my bottom teeth."

Apparently, someone Barnett knows from the neighborhood saw the attack, tried to protect him and called police.

Barnett's cash was not taken but his cell phone was stolen during the beating.

Police believe this was a random attack of violence.

The CPD says they have a make on the suspects' vehicle.  Its described as a green, 4-door, 2000 Chevy Lumina.

The suspects remain at large.
