AKRON, OH (WOIO) - A sick and injured dog rescued from cruel conditions in Akron on Monday.
An officer from the Humane Society of Greater Akron found the dog, thin and dehydrated, tied outside in the cold with no food or water. The dog had a horribly embedded chain tightly wrapped around his neck. Part of the chain was so badly embedded in the dog's neck that the skin had grown over it and could no longer be seen.
Immediate action was taken, and the Humane Officer removed the dog from the property.
The rescued dog was later named King.
It was discovered during the King's examination that he is also heartworm positive. The vet found him to weigh in at 40 pounds when he should ideally be around 55 pounds.
King's owner will be charged with animal cruelty.
