PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - In the past two weeks, the Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to three incidents of reported car fires in Painesville Township which were determined to be suspicious and intentionally set.
The first incident took place on November 24 at 2:44 a.m. at an apartment complex on Spring Lake. A gold 2001 Pontiac Grand Am was found fully engulfed in flames.
The Sheriff's Office and Painesville Twp. Fire Department responded and determined that the origin of the fire was from within the interior of the vehicle.
The second incident took place two days later, at 12:30 a.m. at the same Spring Lake location. The Sheriff's Office and Painesville Township Fire Department responded to this location and found a blue 1985 Cadillac on fire. As in the first instance, the fire originated within the interior of the car.
The most recent occurrence took place on November 30 at 1:35 a.m. on North Ridge Road, another apartment complex just west of Spring Lake along North Ridge Road.
Again, the Sheriff's Office and Painesville Twp. Fire Department responded and upon arrival found a white 2005 Ford fully engulfed in flames in the parking lot.
The apartment building was evacuated and there was collateral damage to the housing structure as a result of the fire. All three cars were extensively damaged.
Area residents did not report seeing any suspicious activity and or persons in the area during these incidents.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is urging area residents to maintain vigilance and immediately report any suspicious circumstances in these residential areas.
