Cleveland (WOIO) - The Browns placed safety T.J. Ward and linebacker James-Michael Johnson on injured reserve because of a knee injuries, ending their seasons. The good news for both players is that neither will require surgery.
Ward suffered a bone bruise in the third quarter of Sunday's 38-21 loss to Washington at the stadium. He started all fourteen games this season for the Browns, racking up 68 tackles, one sack, three forced fumbles and one interception.
Ward missed the final eight games last season because of a sprained foot.
Johnson, a rookie from Nevada, played in ten games this season, registering 35 tackles.
To take the players spots on the roster, the Browns signed defensive back Prince Miller and linebacker Adrian Moten and elevated defensive lineman Hall Davis from the practice squad.
Originally signed by Baltimore as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2010, Miller has appeared in four career games and has totaled three tackles. He has spent time on the active rosters of Baltimore (four weeks in 2010), Detroit (four weeks in 2010) and Indianapolis (one week in 2011) and time on the practice squads of Baltimore (nine weeks in 2010), New England (one week in 2010), Buffalo (six weeks in 2011) and most recently Jacksonville (three weeks in 2012).
Originally signed by Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent on July 29, 2011, Moten has appeared in 13 career games and has three tackles on defense and one special teams fumble recovery. In 2011, he appeared in 10 regular season games with the Colts and two with the Seattle Seahawks. This season, he spent training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles and was waived during final roster cuts. He was re-signed by the Eagles on October 2 and appeared in one game, before being waived on October 9.
Originally drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the fifth round (149th overall) of the 2010 draft, Davis has appeared in one regular season contest. He spent 10 weeks on the Titans' practice squad in 2010, before being signed to the active roster where he appeared in one game. He spent training camp with Raiders this season before being waived on final roster cuts on August 31. He has spent the last seven weeks on the Browns' practice squad.
