Berea (WOIO) - Both Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy missed practice on Wednesday because of injured shoulders meaning Thaddeus Lewis could be under center when the Browns take on the Steelers on Sunday.
The third year quarterback took all the first team reps in practice on Wednesday.
"If I get the start it will be wonderful. I will be living out a childhood dream," Lewis said after practice. "Right now, I'm just taking it all in, enjoying it while I can in practice taking the reps."
Lewis, who was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad on Monday, has never played in a regular season game.
"To be on the practice squad and just take reps with the ones, it's a good thing," he said. "Sometimes your number gets called, so my number was called this time and hopefully I will get the opportunity to play. Until then, I'm going to do whatever coach asks me to do."
The team also signed free agent Josh Johnson as an insurance policy. Johnson, who was a fifth round pick by Tampa Bay in 2008, has played in 26 games in his three years in the NFL.
Weeden left last Sunday's game against Denver in the third quarter with a sprained right shoulder. McCoy replaced him and also injured his shoulder on the last play of the game.
