2012: Sharp rise in Cleveland murders

Cleveland Police are finishing the year investigating a sharp rise in murders.

As of Monday morning, the city has had 96 murders in 2012. Last year's total was 75.

And the actual number of death investigations handled by the Homicide Unit is well over 100 for the year.

City Hall recently announced new plans to target gun violence, including adding more officers to a program concentrating on specific neighborhoods with the most gun violence.
