Homeowner shoots and holds suspect for police after break in

A homeowner shot a burglary suspect and held him until police arrived Monday morning on Cleveland's east side.

Just before 9 a.m., Police Dispatch received a call for a homeowner holding a male that broke into his home at 5767 Portage Avenue.

Once on scene Third District Officers were met by the homeowner who was holding the suspect at gunpoint.

According to police the homeowner informed the officers that he shot the suspect and after checking the suspect he was found to have gunshot wounds to his cheek and right arm.

EMS was notified and responded to the scene and the suspect was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he is being treated for his injuries.

The preliminary investigation reveals that suspect broke into the victim's home, the victim confronted the suspect and attempted to hit the victim with a lamp. At this time the victim shot the suspect and called police.

The suspect has been named a suspect in an Aggravated burglary.

The facts of this investigation to be presented to the Prosecutor's Office for review.

    Medical Mutual of Ohio has confirmed that an employee sent 45 emails to the wrong person containing personal information for more than 6,000 of its Medicare Advantage customers.  According to a spokesperson for Med Mutual, based in Cleveland, this was an accident because the employee typed in an incorrect email address and the data was going to a third party that didn't have authorization to be looking at private information.
