An investigation is underway after a man was shot at an east side home early Saturday morning.
At 2:44 a.m., dispatchers got a call from a man stating he had shot a man that tried to break into a home on East 143rd Street.
Officers responded and found the man, Brandon Kirby, to be in possession of two handguns. He was arrested for felonious assault.
Kirby told police he was sitting in his car in his girlfriend's driveway listening to music when her ex-boyfriend arrived. Kirby and the ex-boyfriend have had altercations in the past.
Kirby said he feared for his safety, and ran into the house and locked the door. The ex-boyfriend then tried to enter the home through a front window. Kirby ran out of the house and was chased by the ex-boyfriend. Kirby then opened fire, hitting the ex-boyfriend in the thigh and knee, and called police.
The ex-boyfriend was taken to Metro by private auto.
Upon interviewing the ex-boyfriend at the hospital, he stated that he went to his ex-girlfriend's home to talk about an incident involving his probation officer. As he walked onto the her porch, he observed Kirby standing on the porch, and for reasons unknown, he produced a handgun and shot him multiple times.
