MASSILLON, OH (WOIO) - Church officials and police are investigating the theft of 13 bronze-plated plaques from St. Joseph Cemetery.
The plaques, which were placed in wooden display cases around a chapel at the cemetery, tell the story of the final steps of Christ on Good Friday.
The plaques were purchased by parishioners in memory of loved ones. Each is worth around $100.
Randy Smith, the cemetery's sexton, says be believes someone may have stolen the plaques to sell to scrap metal dealers.
Smith also says the plaques were insured and will be replaced.
