Browns Hire VP, Arctic Blast Coming, Energy Drinks and the ER, Thistledown Racino Job Fair

The Cleveland Browns named Michael Lombardi as the club's Vice President – Player Personnel. Lombardi brings 22 years of NFL experience as a front office executive to his second stint the Browns, most recently spending eight seasons (1999-2007) in the player personnel department of the Oakland Raiders. Since 2008, he has worked primarily as an analyst with NFL Network and NFL.com. Over the course of his NFL career, Lombardi has been associated with teams that have advanced to the playoffs on 10 occasions, won seven division titles, made five Conference Championship game appearances and earned two trips to the Super Bowl, capturing Super Bowl XIX following the 1984 season as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

A few flurries are coming off of the lake early this morning. That will quickly come to an end as we head towards sunrise. Expect a nice warm up this afternoon and temperatures holding right around the freezing mark overnight as the wind remains strong out of the southwest. Saturday afternoon before the next front, temperatures will top out in the upper 40s before a big blast of arctic air moves in Saturday night. As the popularity of energy drinks has soared, so has the number of Americans seeking treatment in hospital emergency rooms after consuming these highly caffeinated beverages, federal health officials report.Between 2007 and 2011, the number of ER visits more than doubled from roughly 10,000 to almost 21,000. In 2011, 58 percent of these ER visits involved energy drinks alone, while 42 percent also included drug or alcohol use. Most of these cases involved teens or young adults, although there was an alarming spike in the number of people aged 40 and older showing up in the ER after consuming these drinks, according to the report from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Symptoms ranged from insomnia, nervousness, headaches and fast heartbeats to seizures.

Thistledown Racino Human Resources will host an Informational Job Fair at Cuyahoga Community College's Corporate College East Campus today and Saturday to offer information about new positions at Thistledown Racino.  Due to the installation of Video Lottery Terminals and an $88 million renovation, Thistledown Racino is adding 600 additional team members to support its new offerings. Human Resources staff will be on site to share information about available positions, benefits and the online application process. Selected applicants will also be scheduled for interviews which will take place every Thursday through February at Thistledown Racino.
