STOW, OH (WOIO) - Stow Mayor Sara Drew has appointed a task force to look at permanent and sustainable solutions to the issue of enhanced security in Stow-Munroe Falls Public Schools and other public institutions in the City, following recent tragedies across the country that have involved children and community members being the victims of gun violence.
The task force has been charged with assessing options and presenting to Stow City Council and the community possible ways to have an enhanced security presence and preventive measures in the schools, library and other public buildings.
Drew has given the task force until March 31 to present their ideas to the public.
"The community has rightfully and clearly stated that the issue of security in our schools and other public buildings is of great concern", said Drew. "The appointment of this Mayoral Task Force will ensure that we have a multi-disciplinary approach and cross representation of stakeholders working toward identifying solutions and how to implement them. I expect that the task force will present its findings to City Council and the community by the end of March. I want this issue addressed in a timely manner."
Chaired by Mayor Drew, other members of the Task Force include members of the SMF Schools Administration, City of Stow Administration, Stow Police Department, Stow Public Safety Services Commission, Stow City Council, and the City of Munroe Falls Administration.
The first meeting will take place on Thursday, January 24 at 5:00pm in the Mayor's Conference Room at Stow City Hall. The public is welcome to attend all meetings of the task force.
