It's bitter cold outside but nice and warm inside where the Mendez family is taking in a couple of games of air hockey at the Cudell Rec Center in Cleveland.
The facility is one of more than 20-centers open during this cold snap. "They cancelled school because of the weather so I wanted to participate with their time," explains Efrain Mendez.
Mendez brought his two daughters to the center Tuesday. "Cozy and warm and we get to play and it's not cold at all," says Aaliyh Mendez.
Down the hall in the gym dozens of kids played basketball to keep busy and beat the blustery weather. "I can play basketball and I don't have to be home," says 11-year old Jackai Nichols.
The City Mission in Cleveland is also helping those in need.
The shelter is open for people who don't have a home. They are expecting to be at full capacity. "We are ready and able to help as many as come that need to get out of this cold and we'll take care of them," says Richard Trickel.
The City Mission also provides meals, clothing, and helps people transition into another facility.
