PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A judge has granted a delay in setting a trial date for Jerice Hunter, the woman charged with murder and child abuse in the case of her missing 5-year-old daughter, to allow Hunter's new attorneys time to review evidence.

"I really don't see how we can set a trial date until they can review evidence," Judge Daniel Martin said Friday morning before setting a new pretrial conference for 8:30 a.m. April 15.

A private attorney for Hunter filed a motion in January to withdraw for the case because he hadn't been paid.

Hunter's new defense team told Martin on Friday they were not prepared to discuss a new trial date because they needed to review evidence and meet with their client.

Martin explained to Hunter that it was his responsibility to respect her speedy trial rights.

Glendale police believe Hunter killed Jhessye Shockley and disposed of her body in a Tempe trash bin. Jhessye has been missing since October 2011.

Police searched the Butterfield Landfill in the south Valley for months without coming up with any leads.

Hunter has maintained her innocence and has been housed in the Maricopa County Jail since her arrest Sept. 6.
