Woman robbed, attacked at Akron gas station

AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

A woman was assaulted and robbed at an Akron gas station on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened just before 1 p.m. at the gas station in the 900 block of East Exchange Street.

The victim reported that as she walked out of the gas station, she noticed a man sitting in the driver's seat of her car. When she approached the car, the man jumped out of the car and attacked her.

The suspect punched the victim in the face several times and attempted to grab her purse. During the struggle, the suspect took the victim's car keys and fled on foot northbound.

The victim had minor injuries to her face and knees and suffered a broken collar bone. She was originally treated on scene by paramedics.

The same suspect appears to have taken a woman's purse around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Upson Street and Stone Street. The victim reported she was waiting for the bus when the suspect approached her and asked for the time. As the victim started to look at her watch, the suspect grabbed the victim's purse and ran northwest from that location.

The suspect is a black man, 17 - 20 years old, 5'07" - 5'10", 150 lbs., with short black hair and a moustache. He was wearing a black knit hat, a waist length navy blue or black coat, with "Carolina" in white or light blue letters across the back, an emblem on the left chest, two light stripes around the waist, and leather sleeves and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Akron Police at 330-375-2181.
