Dyngus Day events

The third annual and highly anticipated Cleveland Dyngus Day will be held Monday, April 1 from 12pm - 2am in the Gordon Square Arts District.

DJ Kishka, Scene Magazine's Best Club DJ 2010 and Cleveland Magazine's Best DJ 2011, has partnered with some of Cleveland's best neighborhood bars and restaurants to host the events, music and accordion parade.

Dyngus Day, also known as Wet Monday, has been celebrated for thousands of years on Easter Monday in Poland. It marks the conclusion of Easter, and the often restrictive time of Lent, with Polish music, beer and cuisine. The world's largest organized Dyngus Day celebration is in Buffalo, NY, where DJ Kishka performed in 2010 and was inspired to bring the event back to his hometown of Cleveland.

The celebration drew 4,500 people in 2012 and expects upwards of 7,500 participants this year. "If I have to sum Dyngus Day up in two words they would be: It's Go Time," says host and promoter DJ Kishka. It's go time Cleveland! This year Dyngus Day will feature its first beer garden and main stage along with the famous Cleveland Dyngus bar hop known as the 'Polish Triangle' in the Gordon Square Arts District.

Dyngus Day events will begin around noon at several of the official locations. At 4pm the Parkview will host the Miss Dyngus pageant. After the crowning of Miss Dyngus, she will place the ceremonial pierogi on the Dyngus float and all will join the Accordion Parade up West 58th St culminating at the beer tent for the acceptance speech by Miss Dyngus 2013. "Kishka's Beer Heaven Tent", the new addition to Dyngus this year, will offer cultural music, dancing, and food sponsored by Sterle's Slovenian Country House.

Throughout the Gordon Square Arts District attendees will find a fine selection of Polish beer and cuisine at restaurants within the "Polish Triangle," including the new Kishka's Beer Heaven and entertainment tent at West 58th/Detroit, Spice Kitchen + Bar, XYZ the Tavern, Battery Park Wine Bar, Reddstone, Happy Dog, The Parkview, Luxe Kitchen and Bar, Toast Wine Bar and The Harp. Shuttle service will run between these locations throughout the evening (for more info on shuttle routes visit the website).

DJ Kishka will also be spreading Polka cheer throughout the day at the official venues of the "Polish Triangle." For a full schedule please check our official Cleveland Dyngus Day website at ClevelandDyngus.com or on facebook.com/DyngusDayCleveland.

Dyngus Day is free and open to the public - all cultural affiliations are welcome. As Norm Plonski of The Parkview Nite Club stated, "Everybody loves to Polka!"

We would also like to send an invitation out to all accordion players to come join our Accordion Parade up West 58th Street. Please meet us at The Parkview at 4pm; the Parade starts at 5pm.
