BARBERTON, OH (WOIO) -

A 32-year-old Barberton man accused of murdering his mother was arraigned in court Thursday afternoon.

Michael Petrie was arrested on Wednesday after police went to his home at 172 23rd Street to check on Maureen Petrie.

Police say Maureen, 67, had stab wounds to the chest and head.  There was also blunt force trauma to the head. The Medical Examiner also stated the decomposing state of her body is consistent with an October death.

Family members were concerned because they had not heard from Michael or Maureen in six months.

When police arrived, they discovered Maureen's body. They believe she had been dead for some time.

Michael is charged with aggravated murder. Police say he made statements that implicated him in the crime.
