FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) -

David Markham spoke for just a few minutes Thursday night at the Fairfield West Baptist Church, one day after police revealed to the public skeletal remains found in Franklin County, Indiana had been identified as his missing daughter.

In that short time, a lot was learned about his daughter, Katelyn, and the person she was.

"I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers in this time.  Although we are glad to have Katelyn home, we always had the hope to be able to see her again," said David Markham.

A crowd of dozens gathered just inside the doors of that church, as Katelyn's father opened up about the search for his daughter.

"It didn't really matter where she was.  It's just that she's home now.  It's unfortunate that we didn't get to broaden our search and continue on to find her that far away, but she's going to come home now," added Markham.

As for Katelyn's father, and her younger sister, the family is trying to cope the best they can.

"Allie and Katelyn were 7 years age difference, but they loved each other, and they were close.  I think it's good for Allie, also.  She has great friends supporting her also.  It's been a tough, difficult time for her as well," said Markham.

Katelyn's fiance, John Carter, proposed to her on her 21st birthday.  Her soon to be mother-in-law says Katelyn changed her life.

"I am just so fortunate that I'd had her in my life, and that I was able to be part of her life, and I am forever changed because of her.  She's what every single mother ever dreamed of to date her child, and I will always love her," said Karyn Winkler.

Markham's father says though they don't know who did this to Katelyn, he is feeling some closure by knowing it's his daughter that was found.

"This is now one chapter closed, and another one will open," he said. We need to find some answers.  But I now get to put Katelyn to rest."

FOX19 spoke with Katelyn's fiance, John Carter, over the phone, who also contributed this statement:

"I miss Katelyn very much. She meant everything to me and losing someone like that can really destroy your life, and I did everything I could to get a life back, and I started going to school, back to work, starting to form new friendships and starting to actually have something of a life after being so violently taken from me, and now I just want to grieve and want to be, figure out how to deal with this. I don't know how to deal with this. I have never lost someone close to me."
