For the second time, Cuyahoga County Prosecutors have indicted the DNA of an unknown rapist--hoping some day he can be identified and hauled to court.
An indictment was just returned today against John Doe for an attack in 1993. Investigators have been testing evidence in old, unsolved rape cases, and now twice, DNA evidence has come back to unknown suspects.
So prosecutors are filing charges so that the statute of limitations does not run out.
If anyone is tied to that DNA, he will be face rape charges. Investigators expect more cases like this. We've seen a series of 20 year old cases solved with actual suspects--part of an ongoing campaign to clear up old mysteries with sex assaults.
