Board chooses past principal to serve as interim Superintendent

MEDINA, OH (WOIO) - The Medina City School District Board of Education chose long-time principal Dave Knight to serve as interim superintendent. The Board placed Superintendent Dr. Randy Stepp on paid administrative leave on April 8, 2013 pending further investigation. This administrative leave is being taken as part of a standard investigatory procedure and is not a disciplinary action or adverse employment action or finding of wrongdoing on his part.

By law the district must have an acting superintendent to manage the day-to-day operations and procedural matters of the district. To fill this need and provide leadership over the short-term the Board has chosen long-time principal Dave Knight. Knight served as principal at Fenn Elementary School until he retired in 2011. Since his retirement Knight has filled in as building principal at Fenn for one school year and has been serving as a special education consultant for Mapleton Local Schools.

Board president Karla Robinson stated, "We feel very fortunate to have an experienced administrator who has a long-standing history in our school district, someone our staff, parents and students know and like very much that is willing to step-in and assist us at this time."

The Board is waiting for the findings of an audit of the Educational Service Center funds; the audit is being conducted by the Auditor of State's office. Once the audit report is available the Board will determine its course of action moving forward.

Mr. Knight's appointment as interim superintendent begins April 24, 2013.
