Fatal accident closes Route 252 in Lorain County

LORAIN COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Elyria Highway Patrol Post is investigating a fatal traffic crash that happened around 8:40 a.m. on SR 252 south of Redfern Road.

David Makaryk, age 44, of Columbia Station, was driving a 2003 Black Ford Fusion southbound on SR 252 when he went off the left side of the roadway and struck two utility poles, before coming to rest.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness to the crash stated Makaryk was traveling at a high rate of speed behind a red Ford F-150 pick-up just prior to the traffic crash.

The pick-up, driven by a white male, continued southbound on SR 252 and did not stop after the crash.

Anyone with information about the traffic crash or the driver of the red pickup truck is  requested to contact the Elyria Highway Patrol Post at 440-365-5045.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were involved.

Officials say to use SR 82 E to SR 237 N to Sprague Road as an alternate route.

The traffic crash remains under investigation.
