The Hunger Network

People in Cleveland decided they would not let those in need go hungry. The Hunger Network is the largest association of pantries and soup kitchens in Cuyahoga County. They are in churches and neighborhood centers operated by volunteers, many of whom have been there helping for 20 plus years. The food being distributed is not haphazard, they are thoughtfully placed together so those hungry and in need are leaving with healthy well rounded meal packages in hand.

The helping handouts are not just of food variety. The Hunger Network takes a holistic approach with two new programs targeting fitness and gardening. The fitness program, called The Stay Well Project, helps educate folks on a community wide issue focusing on ways to stay healthy and Fit. Meanwhile, the Garden Program, focuses on offering fresh produce and making sure meals are nutritionally balanced with vegetables and fruits.

Saturday, May 11, 2013 is the Walk for Hunger. 19 Action News meteorologist Jason Handman, will be attending the Walk for Hunger. The walk starts at the airport with registration at 8:45a.m. Registration and more information is available online at the Hunger Network web site.
