MENTOR, OH (WOIO) - Mentor Firefighters were called to a trailer fire at 9151 Mentor Avenue.
Crews on scene say a mom and her son were pulled from the structure. Both had to be Lifeflighted to MetroHealth Medical Center.
They were saved thanks to a neighbor, Allen Rosipko, who called 911 then got the door open so the son could get out.
"I came out to replace a grill cover and I remember from a house fire my dad had, it brought back memories, and that's when I came out to the driveway and saw smoke coming out of the stacks pretty steady," Rosipko said.
The boy wanted to go back in to get his mom, but Rosipko said all he could see inside was smoke, "He wanted to run back in, and I stopped him. The only thing I could think of is he's worried about his mom, so I ran back here to get an ax to bust the windows to release the smoke."
Firefighters arrive and rescued the mom.
No word on what started the fire, the cause remains under investigation. Firefighters do not believe there were any working smoke detectors.
