San Diego, CA (WOIO) - San Diego Chargers legendary running back Charles 'Chuck' Muncie has died of a heart attack at the age of 60. Muncie began his career with the Chargers in 1976 and became one of the NFL's most dominant running backs. The former Cal star rushed for a career total of 6,702 yards with 71 rushing touchdowns and three Pro Bowl appearances with his best season coming in 1981, when Muncie rushed for 1,144 yards and led the NFL with 19 rushing touchdowns.
In 1989, Muncie was sentenced to 18 months in prison for selling cocaine. Although the jail sentence ended his career, Muncie went on to become a drug counselor and worked with troubled youth.
