Cleveland (WOIO) - As I write this, we are exactly six weeks away from the Browns kicking off training camp, and I already know what I need to see:
I need to see Trent Richardson make it through camp without any setbacks. No nagging injuries, no minor issues, just the consistency of a guy who needs to show why he was the third overall pick in the draft. I need to see a 1500-yard season from Trent. If health issues start popping up a week or so into camp, red flags are gonna go up quickly, at least for me.
I need to see Leon McFadden prove quickly that he can start opposite Joe Haden. Nothing against the other cornerbacks in camp, including Buster Skrine, but if the Browns believed they already had their man, they don't draft McFadden in Round 3.
I need to see Brandon Weeden take command of this offense, show that he's a leader, and fire strikes to receivers downfield in a system that's far better suited to his skill set.
I need to see Ray Horton's defense flying...attacking...setting the tone, and identity, for a team that's gone far too long without one.
And, I need to see the annual August optimism actually play out into September...and beyond. The Browns say that it feels different in Berea these days. I believe 'em. I just hope it looks different.
