North Attleborough, MA (WOIO) - The last time the NBA Finals were overshadowed by the sight of helicopter footage of an football star, involved in a murder investigation, driving a white SUV, it was 1994, and O.J. was on the lam, and the Knicks and Rockets were squaring off, not the Spurs and Heat.
But here we are in 2013, and once again the choppers are hovering, and once again there's a football player under surveillance, and once again his every move, in a white SUV, is being monitored.
Of course, unlike O.J., Aaron Hernandez isn't trying to flee. But he remains a person of interest as authorities investigate the execution-style murder of 27-year old Odin Lloyd.
Lloyd dates the sister of the mother of Hernandez' child. According to reports out of Boston, the two men were at a bar together on Monday night, before Lloyd was found a mile away from Hernandez' home with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. And authorities also say there's evidence that Hernandez intentionally destroyed his home security system recently, as well as his cell phone.
Hernandez is innocent until proven guilty, but as news continues to break, including a civil suit filed against him for shooting a friend in the face in Miami in February, you can't help but think, haven't we seen this movie before?
