Tony Hawk headed to Smithsonian

Washington, DC (WOIO) - Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk will become a part of history soon, as the Smithsonian National Museum of American History will showcase his first skateboard. A ceremony honoring the many donations Hawk and his company have made to the museum will take place this weekend.

The skateboarding legend received his first board from his older brother in 1977. "I am happy to give it to the Smithsonian, but I had to get my brother's blessing first." Hawk said. "He told me, 'That's where I think it belongs', so he is coming with me to share the honor."

Hawk spent years skateboarding professionally around the world and is known for his clothing line, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video game series, and being one of the first skaters to complete the legendary "900" trick.
