The Cleveland Browns released rookie linebacker Ausar Walcott on Tuesday and it was for more than just his play on the field. Walcott was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with attempted murder during a fight outside a gentleman's club in New Jersey earlier in the week.
The former University of Virginia linebacker punched 24-year-old Derrick Jones in the head late Sunday night. Jones is currently in critical condition at the Harlem Hospital center. Walcott turned himself in to authorities Tuesday morning and was charged with first-degree attempted murder.
The Browns reacted quickly to the news of Walcott's arrest and released him from the team. This news comes on the same day that New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested for murder charges and released from his team. Hernandez and Walcott are now the 27th and 28th NFL players arrested since the end of the 2012-2013 season.
