Voting ends Sept. 11 for newest street name in Cincinnati - Cleveland 19 News Cleveland, OH

Last day to vote on Kennedy Connector street name

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Wednesday is the last day to cast your vote to help decide the name of a new Cincinnati street.

The Kennedy Connector project, which is extending Kennedy Avenue south to Madison Road, will include a brand-new city street that will intersect the new portion of Kennedy about midway down.

The street will help tie the new section of Kennedy into I-71 South and the Norwood Lateral, while also linking to Ridge and Alamo Avenues to provide the same access to the highways for both of those streets.

"This will be a very short road, but it will do a big job," said Michael Moore, Director of the Department of Transportation and Engineering.  "It deserves a great name."

Hundreds of name ideas were submitted to the Kennedy Connector Facebook page beginning in July. A naming committee, which included residents from nearby neighborhoods and members of the Cincinnati media, reviewed all of the nominations and selected a handful of finalists:

  • Kennison:  Combination of "Kennedy" and "Madison."
  • William Brown: Cincinnati pioneer. Received Purple Heart from George Washington.
  • HB Stowe: Harriet Beecher Stowe. Abolitionist, Uncle Tom's Cabin author, one-time Cincinnati resident.
  • Mill Ridge: "Mill" in honor of the former Cincinnati Milacron site and "Ridge" from the nearby road.
  • Kennector: Combination of "Kennedy" and "Connector."

The public can select the winning name by visiting the Kennedy Connector Facebook page. Voting ends Wednesday, September 11.

Once the final name is chosen, the city will add a designation (Rd, St, etc).

In addition, the person who suggested the name will be invited to a ceremony marking the end of the nearly two-year project.
