HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -

A man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a chase through Butler County on Thursday evening.

Authorities say 21-year-old Emery Herzig was seen driving erratically and nearly hitting several oncoming vehicles on the west side of Hamilton.

Just after 7 p.m., a Hamilton Police officer signaled him to pull over in the area of Main and F Street. Police say Herzig pulled to the side of the road, and when the officer got out of his cruiser, the suspect drove away eastbound on Main Street and across the High Main Bridge.

According to officers, stop sticks were used and although some of the tires were deflated, he refused to stop. Herzig made a U-turn near High Street and Fair Avenue and eventually left city limits. The Butler County Sheriff's Office then utilized stop sticks a second time, which deflated the remainder of his tires.

Eventually, a Hamilton Police cruiser was blocking an intersection at Rt. 4 and Laurel Avenue to protect traffic. Authorities say Herzig intentionally hit the police cruiser.

Despite the deflated tires and collision with the cruiser, the driver continued south on Rt. 4 into the City of Fairfield, where Fairfield Police Officers assisted in the pursuit.  The driver pulled into the lot of Performance Honda in Fairfield and deliberately rammed a Hamilton Police cruiser that was attempting to block the suspect's exit from the lot.

According to police involved in the pursuit, the suspect's car eventually came to a rest in the middle of Rt. 4 due to the damage.

The speed of the pursuit did not exceed 45 to 50 miles per hour, police say.

Hamilton Police have charged Herzig with Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Reckless Operation.  More charges may be filed against Herzig upon completion of the investigation into the facts of the pursuit.  The Butler County Sheriff's Office and Fairfield Police may also be filing charges for actions committed against Deputies and Officers.

Herzig was transported to Mercy Fairfield for evaluation of medical conditions that appear to be un-related to the pursuit.  He remained in the hospital as of Friday morning.
