ASHTABULA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle crash that sent five people to an area hospital early Saturday morning.
Troopers responded to the crash on Walnut Blvd at Union Ave at 3:05 a.m. Saturday.
According to the State Highway Patrol, the driver of a Honda Civic failed to yield at a stop sign, drove through a residential lawn, and went over a cliff onto a private beach near Lake Erie.
There were five people in the car: Tyler Ashley, 26, of Ashtabula, Benjamin Ashcroft, 22, of North Kingsville, Shawn Ryder, 25, of Ashtabula, Brandyn Frampton, 21, of Kingsville, and Katrina Welton of Ashtabula.
All of the occupants were transported from the scene by ambulance, two went to Hillcrest and the three others went to MetroHealth Medical Center.
The driver of the car, Tyler Ashley was treated and released and Tyler Ashley is listed in good condition at Hillcrest. We have been made aware the two people remain hospitalized at Metrohealth as of Sunday evening.
Authorities have determined the passengers were not wearing seatbelts and that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
